Pecans are quite similar to walnuts. They became known in Europe around the 16th century, when Spanish explorers came across them and named them nuez de la arruga which means walnuts with wrinkles. They are surrounded by a very hard outer crust that breaks only with a nutcracker. Pecan trees grow up to 50 meters in height and live up to 150 years.
